Intestinal Flukes Review

March 24, World Tuberculosis Day

In 2006, in EU-27 states, were recorded almost 90 000 cases of tuberculosis. Globally, new cases were more than 9 million. To take a picture on the prevalence of TB in the EU and worldwide, are respectively the ratio of the network of the European Commission Euro TB and the WHO's annual report "Global Tuberculosis Control 2008, released ahead of World TB Day , which is celebrated on 24 marzo.Negli recent decades, tuberculosis has been decreasing in Europe. The elimination of the disease (fixed threshold of less than 1 case per million), however, a goal still far from reach, yet attainable for the EU-15, and in the future as possible in all EU countries with concerted effort. In 2006, TB cases in 27 European countries were 87,806, or approximately 17.8 cases per 100 000 people, a slight decrease from the 91,578 cases registered in 2005. However, since 2002 the rate of illness is decreased by only 4 per cento.Ci are significant geographical differences In the outbreak of tuberculosis. The Eastern and Baltic regions still retain the highest rates of disease, although lower than in the past. Nel'UE to 15 TB rates are generally low, but not always falling. In these countries, the TB infection primarily affecting the most vulnerable populations, such as immigrants from countries with a high prevalence of the disease, nomadic communities, the poor, prisoners and immunocompromised persons, such as HIV. In these groups of population rates of TB are comparable to those of countries with higher incidenza.Per regarding the success of treatment in 2005 only seven countries have achieved the global target set by the World Health Assembly (85 per cent success in new cases of TB). With advancing age the likelihood of recovery decreases, while increasing the risk of death. At the request of the Commissioner of Health, the European Centre for Disease Prevention (ECDC) published a specific action plan for tuberculosis to improve disease control and, ultimately, debellarla.Il plan proposes four key objectives:
- ensuring immediate care to all citizens and quality of TB
- strengthen health systems
- develop and implement new tools
- building international collaborations.
